When we sat down to write a comprehensive guide to air pulse toys, we realised we simply have too much to say, so we’ve decided to split this into separate articles so it's a bit easier to digest.
This blog will cover: what air pulse toys actually are, how they work and how different shapes can impact your experience. Plus a few other details.
The next one gets wonderfully nerdy and explores clit vs toy size and breaks down the dimensions of each toy we stock so you can make the most informed choice possible.
These toys have been given a LOT of names, and most are just inaccurate in ways that hurt my poor lil brain. So for the sake of my sanity; I’m settling this once and for all.
These toys don’t suck, there is no suction*.
For the record, clit suckers do exist! That is a thing - it's just a different thing. (check out our review on this pump which lemme tell you SUCKS). But what most people in my experience are talking about when they ask for a clit sucker is actually an air pulse toy.
I’ve heard people claim that air pulse toys replicate the feeling of someone going down on you — now idk WHAT kinda head y’all are getting but that has not been my experience at all. (There are toys that are supposed to actually feel like tongues/mouths though if that's what you’re looking for like this one, but I wouldn’t say that's an air pulse.)
Essentially each toy has an opening, a channel and a diaphragm. The opening goes against your body. The diaphragm oscillates (bounces) back and forwards in the channel, creating alternating negative & positive air pressure in cycles of up to 300 times per second (!!!)

The less sciency version - you know when you’re standing near a speaker and you can feel the bass from the subwoofer moving across your body? Great. These toys are like a teeny subwoofer for your junk. (It's not a perfect analogy but its pretty darn close)

As the diaphragm bounces backwards, it pulls youjust a little bit closer. As the diaphragm bounces forwards, it creates a wall of air that pushes against you - creating a push/pull or tapping sensation.
Because variety is the spice of life…? Idk
In all seriousness though; some people find direct clitoral stimulation with a more traditional vibrator a bit overwhelming. Air pulse is a sensational alternative that people often find less overstimulating. It is REALLY good though.
I’m such an air pulse toy truther I have convinced my own grandmother to buy one.
Air pulse toys come in such a wide range of fun and funky shapes it can be kinda overwhelming. How can something shaped like a rose and something shaped like a penguin's face function the same way?
Basically it comes down to what shape will work best for your own anatomy.
Toys with a flat profile are a bit more suited for people whose bits might be best described as outies; if you feel like you don’t really need to move a lot of tissue out of the way to find your bean these might be the go for you.
Flatter profile toys tend to come in far more fun and whimsical shapes, from roses and peaches to unicorns, pandas and a whole host of cute designs.
Toys with a more protruding profile are more suited for innies, or those of us with fat pussies (pardon the phrasing but I simply can’t think of an easier way of describing it)
You’ll almost certainly have a good time with an air pulse toy regardless of shape; but having one that nestles comfortably/completely around your bean can drastically improve the experience.
Much like all the best things in life; air pulse toy shapes exist on a spectrum.

From left to right we've got: Satisfyer Blossom, ROMP Pink Peach, Womanizer Enhance, Romp Shine X, Womanizer Liberty and the Satisfyer Pro 2
When shopping for an air pulse toy it's helpful to keep the shape in mind, but it's by no means the only factor to consider. I can’t recommend shopping in-store where you can get your hands on a demo model enough.
Just going off shape you might think that a ROMP Kiss (which falls somewhere in the middle of the Flat > Protruding spectrum) is best, but you prefer the power of a flatter rose model. You know your pussy better than anyone else.
A super common question we hear in the sex shop. Personally I am of the opinion that every toy can be used with a partner if you’re creative enough.
With that being said, I’m never reaching for an air pulse toy with a partner and that's the sentiment I’ve heard from a lot of my friends.
In my opinion, air pulse toy placement is super critical to having a good time, it really needs to beexactlyon the clit, which is easier to achieve if the person with the clit in question is the one driving.
One of the other reasons I’m not reaching for these with a partner is they’re not very versatile. With a more traditional vibe, it can feel fabulous all over the body, while an air pulse toy is limited to one fairly specific part of your anatomy. (Though it does a spectacular job in that one spot)
Now, while I think someone using this on you/you using it on someone else is a bit whatever, I did say everything is usable and I stand by that. Make your partner sit off to the side and watch while you use this on yourself — NOW we’re cooking with gas! (#ModernProblemsRequireModernSolutions)
Now we’re officially drifting beyond the scope of Air Pulse 101. This is just what it is and why it's good.
Watch this space though, because Air Pulse 102 is gonna go in depth about toy holes and why size matters! (particularly as it relates to people with bottom growth.)

*look if you want to be soooo annoying about it I guess there is arguably the tiniest amount of suction. But I would say that its only suction on a TECHNICALITY. Definitely not suction by the broadest understanding of the word. This is a hill I’m willing to die on — argue with the wall.
