How do I choose a harness?

Pegging is all the rage these days. The pegging practice was most recently made famous by theBroad City series in the episode “Knockoffs.” If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth the watch.

Now that pegging has become more accepted and commonplace in the bedroom, it’s time to discuss what it is and what you need to know about harnesses.

If you haven’t already read our three-part series onHow to Choose the Perfect Dildo or Dong, we highly suggest it as a starting point.

What is Pegging?

Pegging is the act of penetrating another partner with a strap-on harness.

Initially, it meant a cisgendered woman penetrating a cisgendered male partner with a pegging harness. However, the term has evolved to become much more inclusive these days.

How do I Peg my Partner?

Talking with your partner about whether they’re interested in being penetrated by you with a strap-on is always the best starting point. Make sure you have at least one, if not several, conversations about what they want to feel if they need preparation and how to choose a strap-on together. It’ll make the whole process less overwhelming and more fun than anything.

Who Can Peg Another Person?

Technically, everyone! However, there are some typical configurations you should be aware of. We’re going to use cisgendered terms here, so please adjust them to reflect your gender or gender identity.

  • Female penetrating a male anally
  • Female penetrating a female vaginally, anally, or both
  • Male penetrating a female vaginally, anally, or both
  • Male penetrating another male if he experiences erectile difficulties or wants to have two phalluses in on the action

What is a Strap on or a Harness?

The terms “strap on” and “harness” are often used interchangeably.

A harness is a device worn by someone who is penetrating another

Strap-ons can either require a harness or not.

A strap-on usually refers to a harness with a dildo built-in, a hollow dildo, or one with a space so you can choose your own dildo for the pegging acts you will perform.

This last style allows you to swap out different dildos easily and quickly.

We suggest buying one high-quality O-ring style harness so you can keep changing out the dildos while keeping the price low.

Funtasia Recommends:For the interchangeable O-ring experience, we recommend theBasix Rubber Works Experience.

Funtasia Recommends:Want to keep it easy and have a built in experience? For the single stimulation style, we love theSilicone Strapon by Ouch in the G-string style.

For dual stimulation, we love theDouble Vibrating Silicone Strap on also in the three-strap style.

What are the Different Styles of Harnesses?

There are many different styles of strap-on harnesses to choose from! It’s up to you what style is:

  • Comfortable - something you can wear for an extended period without experiencing chaffing or discomfort
  • Easy to clean - if you plan on using your harness frequently, you’ll need to clean it. Choose a material and style that allows you to either spot clean it often or one you can throw in the washing machine
  • Flattering - there are tons of different styles that are flattering for every body type! Why choose “just a harness” when you can have a colourful and sexy one?

The G-string or Two Strap Harness

This style has one long strap that goes around the hips of the penetrator and a strap that slides between the butt cheeks, much like g-string underwear does.

This has a medium level of control compared to other styles but has the added advantage of providing the wearer with the pleasure of the strap moving along their genitalia.

Funtasia Recommends:This leather strap-on harness.

The Underwear or Lingerie Harness

These come in a massive variety and can vary from tight briefs to any kind of underwear you can think of! These have become increasingly popular these days as it makes your new appendage look and feels more like part of you, you can usually wash them quickly, and they’re the easiest to put on.

The Jock-Strap or Three Strap Harness

As the name suggests, this style has three loops - one long strap to go around the wearer’s waist and two more secure around each thigh. This style allows for a comfortable, customised fit with a high level of dildo control. The best part about this style is that it leaves the wearer exposed for additional erotic stimulation while they’re wearing it.

The Corset Style Harness

These are very popular with the more feminine wearers as they can be pretty flattering and easily adjusted to fit each body type. You can adapt almost every harness style to have a corset back, so there’s no specific leg straps or anything of that nature.

The Chest Strap Style of Harness

These usually involve the basic two-strap or three-strap harness as a base and feature suspenders that wrap around the wearer’s shoulders. This is to allow a more significant amount of control and give a specific kind of visual appeal that is especially popular with the BDSM community.

Funtasia Recommends:This full-body harness set.

The Strapless Strap On

These beautiful creations allow both people to feel stimulated internally. One end curves into the wearer usually shaped to stimulate their G-spot or P-spot, then it extends out into a full dildo. This means no one has to choose who is getting penetrated since you both get to enjoy it!

They may or may not feature a vibrator, so make sure you know what you’re after.

Funtasia Recommends:The Sharevibe by Fun Factory

Most of these you can pair with your favourite dildo orpick out a new one! If you still have questions or want some support with choosing your new harness, drop in at one of ourthree locations and ask a Sexpert for some help.
